The Washing Machine
That Had a Mind of Its Own

Nana had a washing machine.
It lived in the garage.

“Wash day!” said Nana.
She popped the clothes in.

Nana pressed the big GREEN button.

Click. Thump, Whirr! Whirr!

But this washing machine
had a mind of its own!

Bumpity-bump!
It jumped on the floor.

Bouncity-bounce!
It danced towards the door!

“Oh dear!” said Nana.

“Stay still, please!”

The machine wiggled.
The machine giggled.

Nana disappeared,
and the machine smiled.

Nana walked in.

Oh no! What’s happened?

Then — shuffle, shuffle —

it slid in front of the door.

The washing machine grinned.

It was having a lovely time.

Then — pop!
it pulled out its own plug.

“Oh, you cheeky thing!” said Nana.

She gave it a little pat.

“There, there,” she said.

The machine sighed.

It plugged itself back in.

Whirr, swish, swirl.

It washed the clothes all day long.

And from that day on,
they were the best of friends.
